This is one of the first books focusing on the usage of minerals in paper manufacturing. The subject has significant importance in the current environment of intense competition and focus on quality and cost–reduction in the paper industry. Minerals play an important role in the paper industry and between 30-35% of fibres in paper and board can be replaced by mineral fillers and pigments, reducing cost of production and enhancing the product quality. This book provides comprehensive coverage of this space starting with the basics and going deep into the areas of minerals, mineral fillers and pigments; availability in different countries; basics of modern paper manufacturing, industry status, economics, structure, properties and applications. Sections such as the one on “High-performance Minerals” provide practical advice on producing high quality paper.
